Become self-aware
Recognize you are experiencing anxiety when you find yourself :
- Over-preparing/double checking tasks
- Ruminating over a simple decision
- Obsessing over a conversation
- Feeling dissatisfied despite working hard/ self-doubting
- Unable to focus/procrastinate
Just because you are meeting deadlines and working hard does not mean you are mentally and physically at your best.
Stay accountable
Give youself 10/15 minutes every day to work on your mental health:
- Meditate
- Practice mindfulness
- Write out your thoughts
Identify your unhealthy coping mechanisms (i.e. turning to alcohol/drugs, stress eating, procrastinating, avoidance).
Keep youself accountable and consciously work on replacing them with healthier alternatives (i.e. if you tend to procrastinate, set small goals everyday to work on).
Intervene with yourself
When you notice yourself overthinking or self-doubting use a self-affirmation that can help you walk away. When you are over-worked, prioritize your needs over others
Examples of self-affirmations:
- This is anxiety and i twill pass
- I am safe
- I am feeling anxious, so things seem worse thanthey are right now
- What i need right now is……………
- Remember to breathe: deep breath in, hold for 3 seconds, exhale out.
